March 30, 1946 - October 14, 2021
Funeral services for Leota Ann Baker will be held Monday, October 18, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Last Chance Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah. Leota was born March 30, 1946 to James Carman and Rosie Lee (Fegget) Carman. She was the sixth of nine children growing up. She knew what is was to be without and didn’t have much in the way of worldly goods. She always said she was raised on love. Leota attended numerous schools including Milfay, Stroud and Okemah. In 1964, she met the love of her life and on May 3, 1965 she married Bobby B. Baker in Pasadena, Texas. To this union were born three children, Donald, Barbara “Sissy” and Bobby Jr. “Bunk”. Throughout her life, outside of being a beloved mother, wife and homemaker, she worked for Curry Hardware, was a top Mary Kaye consultant falling just short of a pink Cadillac, owned and operated one of Okemah’s first tanning salons, Dawn and Country Style Home Health, Deals Food and a home daycare. She enjoyed the art of quilting which was passed down from her mother, working in her flower beds, canning garden raised vegetables and made the best chow chow on Earth and was an amazing cook. As a young mother, she never missed a ballgame or school event and was always our biggest fan in the stands. As a grandmother, she loved her grand-babies unconditionally and enjoyed attending their ballgames and school events. Before losing Bobby on December 4, 2020 to COVID, they were always together and before selling their cattle, they loved to go feed and take care of their cattle together for hours. She always made the holidays special with her homemade candies, fried okra, pies and cakes which will be tenderly missed. She accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of her life in 1964 with her husband and together they taught their family how to find God, love God how to have a relationship with him which is the greatest gift they ever gave us. Leota had very humble beginnings but she would tell you she was the richest person alive having spent 54 years of her life with the man she loved and being surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. She would always welcome you with open arms and was there when you needed a safe place to run to. A mamma's love is a mamma's love. Also preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her two sons, Donald Baker and wife Daphne of Okemah and Bobby “Bunk” Baker Jr. and wife Julie of Okemah; her daughter, Barbara “Sissy” Remis and husband Sampson of Mason; one sister, Alice Case of Shawnee, Oklahoma; 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and her aunt, “Wee” Carman of Okemah. Leota’s grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary bearers include Sampson Remis, Charlie Ray Smith, Larry Hollis, Kurt Titsworth, Cliff Nichols, Dusty Hayes and Gary McCall. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, Oklahoma. Online condolences may be made at www.ParksBrothersFuneralHome.com.
